Finland’s arctic pines grow for some centuries. After the end of their growth period, they dry out slowly while standing. This process lasts for a couple of decades. The bark breaks loose from the trunk, which is virtually “tanned” by the exposure to sunlight and snow.

This preservation process provides Kelo wood with stability, and creates a silvery-grey patina and gold-coloured cut surfaces. A typical texture with curved lines is among its material-related properties and accounts for the form and character of Kelo wood. Its biological, ecological and technical advantages are unsurpassed. Thus, it is the ideal building material for a Kelo blockhouse sauna.
